Batchwell

We built the tool we needed.

How a question about one supplier turned into Batchwell.

Which batches used that supplier's ingredients, and where did those batches go?

It should take ten seconds.

Batchwell started inside Willow & Watch, a small-batch body and home care company in College Station, Texas. We make tallow deodorant, hot-process soap, lip balm and balms by hand. We render our own tallow, and we sell online, at local markets, wholesale and on Faire.

Every batch we make gets a lot code, and every supplier signs a cruelty-free declaration. For a while, all of that lived in a spreadsheet, a notebook and a shoebox of invoices.

Then we applied for Leaping Bunny certification, and one of our suppliers declined to sign the declaration. The question was simple: which batches used that supplier's ingredients, and where did those batches go?

Answering it meant an afternoon with invoices and notebooks. It should take ten seconds.

So we built the tool we needed. Willow & Watch runs on it every day, and now we're opening it to other makers.
